I received one of the CP53E letters in the mail stating that the IRS could not direct deposit my tax refund as I am missing bank account information. But I am not owed a refund as I normally pay taxes each year. I authorize the IRS to withdraw my tax payment each year when I submit my return.

Do I need to give the IRS my bank account information to permanently store in a ID.me account despite never needing to receive a tax refund payment? It seems strange that they indicate I do.

Received CP53E letter when I an PAYING taxes to the IRS?

Check your transcript, just had this happen as well and they were refunding a penalty calculation out of our payment.
