Female 34, single, . I recently filled my tax, apparently my income tax was $109k, and payable was summed to $20,814k. Apparently I only paid $18, 899k, so now I have to pay the balance.
The only expenses I could claim was my rent.
Do you think my tax was done properly
If so, what can I do to avoid getting into this situation of owing the government again after work my a$$ off.
    Thank

    Was my tax done correctly?

Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society. Pay your damn taxes, girl.

    2. The answer to your question is that you need to adjust your withholding with your employer so they withhold slightly more each paycheck so you don’t end up owing at the end of the year.

    3. Go update your W4 to have an additional $2k withheld from your taxes next year.

Then brush up on the terms and how taxes work. Your income was $109k, not your tax. I really doubt you deducted rent on your taxes. Mortgage interest, Property taxes and state income tax maybe, but not rent. I strongly suspect at your income level you just took the standard deduction.

    4. What kind of “rent”? Rent is generally not a deductible expense, unless you’re in business.

What kind of income did you have? W-2? What was in boxes 1 and 2 if that applies?

    5. This is impossible to know for us. If you make $100k and end up owing $2k that is not far fetched.
