I become unemployed in Dec/2023 to take care of my Grandfather who died July 2024, I reported my taxes that year in 2025 with no issues since I had income from his life insurance and my last W2, etc. However, I'm still unemployed with 0 income, living off of savings waiting for govt shutdown to end so NMC can send my MMC so I can go back to my previous job before I became unemployed. My only income, if you want to call it that in 2025, was just $15 from Jury Duty. Does this need to get filed if I had no/$0 income since I didn't even hit the threshold to file?

A quick google search, i'm seeing mixed results that you do need to file, and other threads saying you don't need to file since I didn't meet the $15,750 threshold. HR Block free version requires me to upgrade to get the forms for the 1040 form for $60.. If I need to file, do I only need to do the Schedule 1 (1040) and send in by mail? My taxes from the previous 2 decades has been pretty simple, W2 only with no issues.

Even the IRS site, to me, it looks like I don't have to file, didn't meet the $15,750 to file, and didn't earn $400 from self-employment. Not sure if the $15 constitutes as "other situations" that requires me to file or not.

Quick question, did some searching, need confirmation from experts or knowledgeable persons.

    1. If you only made $15, you don’t need to file.

Did you sell any stocks? Do you have any money in the stock market generating dividends? Any interest from your bank accounts?

Edit: Like Chuckles said, if you have Marketplace insurance, that does require you to file.
