So i'm making this post not to seek help but mostly out of frustration but help would be appreciated

I'm looking for a car, I've got 2 kids that I have to take to school they've been taking the bus but we live in a rough neighborhood and lately they've been telling me they hate taking the bus and waiting at the bus stop because there's a lot of weird people around

I also work retail I work 2 jobs and the commute in between jobs is a lot I have to walk often times and it's a 40 minute walk which would be a 10 minute drive easily so that's 30 minutes saved

So I think a car purchase is definitely justified it's just i've been looking on facebook marketplace and i've saved up around ~$7,000 for a car but I really want something that'll last me a few years given that I went through hell and back to save up to that amount.

Everyone around me keeps telling me what to do to make sure I don't get screwed by the sellers stuff like getting a carfax, or a mechanical inspection but it's just that I can't afford a mechanical inspection and I thought a carfax was only like a couple bucks lol turns out it's $40 and that's a whole meal that I can't afford to lose on just a basic report on the car

I also can't afford to get the car without knowing for sure the seller isn't lying because it's I really NEED this to last me haha i'm in a bit of a struggle right now not sure what to do

Buying a car is kinda expensive, even stupid stuff like Carfax cost a lot

There’s thousands of cars under 7k that will last 5+ years on marketplace.

But yeah. It sucks. Cars are the single most expensive things many people ever have.

    2. The cost of Car Fax and/or a mechanic is a LOT cheaper than the cost of buying a lemon. Maybe instead of a 7,000 budget, go down to 6800 and use the 200 on Car Fax/Mechanic

You can get a Carfax for like $6 on autovinreveal way better than paying $40 everytime you need a Carfax especially when you are looking at multiple cars, they also have bundle as low as $2 which is pretty nice
