I live in state A and file in state A but pay state B taxes.

my spouse has been living, filing and paying state A.

meaning I've not been getting refunded my state taxes only she has.

i finally realized this year when filing my mistake.

my spouse never filed that exemption form to halt state taxes nor did I move what state I pay.

I've been using H&R block though military one source.

can I file for back taxes? how does that even work?

I was thinking about calling H&R block to sit down with someone and see if they can fix this.

    any advice appreciated

can I even get this fixed?

I'm so dumb. I filed taxes in the wrong state for 3 years. help

    1. Most states have a time limit where you can file for a refund. The federal limit is 3 years, and I believe many states are the same.

You would find the forms and instructions for previous years and file using those.

You file an amended return in the appropriate states. Some make it easier than others. And the tax professionals at H&R Block may not be well informed on how taxes work in other states than where their office is.
