So I’m 19 with a credit score around 750. My only card right now is the Discover it Chrome, which honestly isn’t doing much for me — I was hoping to product change to the Discover it with 5% rotating categories but it didn’t go through.
So I’ve been thinking about my next moves and landed on the Capital One Savor and Venture X as my next two cards. The Savor for everyday dining/entertainment and the Venture X for travel/general spending long term.
I feel like those two would cover most of my bases but wanted to see what this sub thinks. Is there anything I’m overlooking, or would you swap one out for something else? I’ve seen the Citi Custom Cash mentioned a lot too but not sure if it’s necessary with that lineup.
Also wanted to ask — do I even need a rotating category card in this setup? Since my Discover product change didn’t work out I don’t have one anymore, but I’m not sure if it’s worth chasing or if the Savor + Venture X already covers enough ground.
Finally ready to move past my Discover Chrome at 19 (750 score) — Savor and Venture X my best next two cards?

wait you’re 19 with 750 score? that’s pretty solid for your age
the savor is decent for dining but just heads up – venture X has annual fee of $395. might be worth checking if you actually travel enough to make that worthwhile. the venture X does have good perks but at 19 idk if you’re doing enough travel to justify it
maybe consider the venture (no X) first? same earning structure but no annual fee. you can always upgrade later when your spending patterns change
citi custom cash is actually really good option too since you can pick your 5% category each month. might be more flexible than savor depending what you spend most money in
At 19, beggars can’t be choosers. You’re not going to get your “end game” setup after just a few months of credit history.
Your score also doesn’t really matter when you have just a few months of credit history. What’s more important is your income, current credit limits, and exact length of credit history.
The VX is a Visa Infinite and requires a minimum $10k credit limit. Few lenders will give out desirable cards to people with less than a year of credit history.
Start with the Savor, though you may very well end up with the student or “good” credit version, then continue to build your history (and income) up for the VX from there.
