Hi (had to edit the profanity out)

I totally destroyed my relationship with my parents haha! i was supposed to go to NYU, but due to some circumstances, now my parents are only willing to pay the amount of the lowest cost decent university I got into: 50,000 for Boston University.

They said that’s all they will provide: if I want to go to NYU, i’d have to take out the other 40,000 in student loans. I only qualified for 20,000 in subsidized loans, so the other 20,000 would acrue interest?

For more information, I am 17. I do not know how all this works. Let me know if I am misinformed. My parents said figure it out yourself.

I really wanted to go to NYU. They were going to help me even if it was hard to pay that 90k. Now it’s Boston University or go end urself. I messed up!

Now I’m not sure what to do. Who do I go to take out private loans?

I am planning to go into premed and go to medical school. So I know I will have more loans to take out. But the return is high.

Edit: I also have UMiami. I got a 30k scholarship bringing the cost to 68,000. They have great med programs. Idk

I feel like ending it all. Idk. someone help me

f-ed up my life: now I have to take out student loans

    1. You can borrow up to $27,000 in federal student loans in TOTAL. You’re looking at a $133,000 delta.

Short answer is that you can’t afford this. You couldn’t borrow that much in private loans even if you wanted to without a co-signer, which would a) likely be your parents and b) be a terrible idea.

      Go to BU.

Private student loans are predatory. Having private loans for undergrad will jeopardize your ability to attend med school.

The $20k is in federal parent plus loans, which are the legal responsibility of the parent to repay. As a dependent undergrad you can borrow up to $5.5k for freshman year.

Even better for your situation seems to be U Miami. If you want to go to med school it helps to be a big fish in a small pond.
