Hi everyone,
I recently got admitted to Carnegie Mellon (Heinz College) for the AIM program (Fall 2026), and I was exploring loan options as an international student from Pakistan.
I applied to Prodigy Finance, but unfortunately got rejected with a generic message saying my application falls outside their credit/funder criteria. I’m a bit confused because I thought my profile was reasonably strong: GRE,GPA,1 year 9 months of work experience, Clean credit report (no defaults, no outstanding loans)
I also have some scholarship support, so I wouldn’t even need to borrow the full cost.
Has anyone (especially from Pakistan) faced something similar with Prodigy? Do they reject based on country risk or program ROI or something else?
Would love to hear your experiences. feeling a bit stuck right now.
Thanks in advance!

How much were you trying to borrow?
May have dodged a bullet there — studying abroad is a luxury experience and unfortunately it sounds like you can’t afford this school.
Private loans are extremely predatory—and more so for international students. The interest rates are exorbitant. Before this administration, getting one without a US co-signer was challenging but now? From what I’ve seen in this sub, many private lenders are being even pickier as there is a much greater chance the student will be denied entry or need to leave the country before they can repay the loan, for one reason or another.
If you don’t have full funding and can’t self-fund, schools in other countries might be a better option.
