Will the pain be limited to a bit? Probably not. Will long-term security from Iran be achieved? Probably not. This war that is somehow not a war is supposed to be about national security but there is more broadly no coherent economic planning going on. Bessent isn’t totally incompetent but he’s also not particularly calling the shots.

I honestly can’t think of how Iran would be a threat now or in the future.
A global supply shock, potential stagflation and high inflation, and potential recession/depression won’t be worth it lol

What “long term” security does bombing some sites, including a school, give? You won’t get regime change without a massive ground invasion and that’s a price they are neither willing to pay or even acknowledge. It’s depressing how many times these people fall into the trap of thinking wars can be cheap and easy. It’s the same trap the US fell into in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan among others. Same trap Russia fell into in Ukraine.
There is no cheap and easy war, you either need to commit to a massive invasion force which is costly in both lives and resources(not to mention a humanitarian disaster) or do nothing at all. Half-assing war has never worked and will never work. You get most of the downsides of war and often it ends up costing way more than if you had done it “right” in the first place(right from a purely detached view, there is no morally right way to do an offensive war). Unforced humanitarian, military and economic disaster all due to the hubris of a few men.
