“Current borrowers enrolled in ICR, PAYE, or SAVE plans must transition to a new repayment plan by July 1, 2028. If no selection is made by that date, they will be moved into RAP.” I have read this on other sites as well. I realize I have asked this question before. . So really just need to double check.

Why do I keep seeing that we need to switch out of SAVE by July 1?? Just read this on the Harvard School financial aid page. . .

    1. You will get a notice between now and July 1, 2026 letting you know you have 90 days to pick a new plan.

July 1, 2028 the ICR and PAYE plans go away.

    2. Read about the transition here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/StudentLoans/s/BazoUbRtjx](https://www.reddit.com/r/StudentLoans/s/BazoUbRtjx).

Starting on July 1, 2026, borrowers on the SAVE forbearance will start receiving notices giving them 90 days to move themselves to another plan. If you do not switch plans by yourself then you will be put into the Standard plan at the end of your 90 days. Not every borrower will get their 90 day notice on July 1st. They will go out in waves.

    3. Around July 1, 2026 you will be given 90 days to switch plans if you are on SAVE. Not 2028. And not ICR or PAYE. ICR and PAYE are eliminated in 2028 by the BBB.

Wait until you hear from your servicer. I’m still hearing that SAVE is wrapped up in the courts and questioning the legality of kicking us all off.
