My monthly payment is going from 84.05 to $841.75. I cannot afford this payment. I barely can afford food. What should I do?

I work for the federal government and I’m 2 years away from PSLF. I’m also not being paid right now because of the partial government shutdown.

    Any advice?

    1. if you’re on PSLF on an IDR plan, your income has to be in the $200k range to have a payment of $841, which would only be 10% of your disposable income. You should be able to afford both food and your payment. If you are not making that much, you need to recertify your income and make sure you’re on the correct PSLF eligible repayment plan. If you’re only 2 years out from forgiveness, you should still qualify for PAYE

Call your servicer asap. That jump sounds unmanageable, and you need to ask about lowering it before you miss anything.

Likely due to MFJ (married filing jointly)

This happened to me. I was on IDR and recertified with my household income. I switched plans.

Go to the students aid website and apply for idr payment there. The website will tell you what your payment will be with the different plans. This is how I do it. I dont trust the call center of the servicer to do the income based payment application correctly.
