FTUSA has blown up in popularity this year, which is awesome – f*** Intuit. But roughly 80% of Americans live in a state with income tax – meaning FTUSA is suddenly not actually free. There's so many people who have Schedule C income (ineligible for TT Free) under $89k, who could truly file for free with MyFreeTaxes instead.
Just feels odd how much credence we're constantly giving to a freemium for-profit company, when there's so many tax situations that fall into the existing IRS-approved channels for free tax prep.
Why so little mention of MyFreeTaxes (TaxSlayer) here?
