**Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice.**

**My car was stolen, and I’m currently dealing with the insurance claim. When I took out the policy, I stated that the car was kept overnight in a locked garage. At the time, I believed that my private parking space at my flat (inside a gated private car park) would count as a locked garage.**

**Now the insurer is asking me to send a photo of the place where I normally keep the car overnight, and they specifically mean an actual garage with walls and a door.**

    **My questions are:**

**1. Could this be considered a breach of contract or misrepresentation, meaning they may refuse to pay the claim?**

**2. Is there anything I can do now to explain the misunderstanding?**

**3. If I sent a photo of a locked garage, would they normally verify the location or inspect it?**

**4. Has anyone had a similar experience with car insurance in the UK/London?**

**I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you.w**

Material misrepresentation, is a very common cause of denying a claim, although I’m unclear as to whether they have that in the UK.

    2. Misrepresentation…

Well, that’s a big mistake. They will probably deny the claim. But I don’t know how insurance works over in the UK.

A locked garage is completely different from a gated car park. I don’t know how you could misunderstand. If there was any doubt, it should have been asked before hand. You messed up.

No one on this sub is going to advocate for you to commit insurance fraud. Own up to the misrepresentation and take the consequences.
