So I was in a car accident last year, and ended up receiving a seperate physicians bill that is "out of network" despite the hospital I went to being in network. It's my understanding that this is exactly what the act is meant to protect against. Can someone confirm that, but also tell me who to contact regarding such a problem? The hospital and the physician company both are telling me to talk to the other, as they don't handle it, and it's getting rather frustrating. I cannot pay this bill, nor do I want to. Everything else was covered either by insurance or the hospitals financial assistancce.

You are absolutely correct. This is the exact scenario the No Surprises Act was built to prevent. The hospital and physician group are caught in a billing loop and trying to make it your problem. Stop talking to the providers. Call your insurance company directly. Tell them this is an NSA claim for an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility. If they stall, escalate by filing a formal complaint on the CMS.gov No Surprises Help Desk portal. That usually forces their hand
