I applied for and got onto the IBR repayment plan this past summer. My recertification date is in August 2026. A few days ago I got an email saying that an IDR application was received, and when I logged onto the website I see that there is an automatic recertification application in processing status. Strangely, when I looked at the actual application PDF, a lot of it was not even filled out. I realized I was signed up for auto recertification but did not realize it would happen this early. I was hoping to be able to pay my current payment amount through August. I am confused about weather this is normal and it takes 4 months to process or if something weird is going on. I have a few questions:
-
Will I likely have to pay the amount based on the recertification before august? Or is the application just started now but will be processing and won’t actually update my payments until after my actual recertification date?
-
If I revoke my consent and manually recertify next year, do I have to do it 4 months early? Is that just the regular timeline or would I actually have until my recertification date to put in the application like I assumed?
I appreciate any help!
Automatic recertification happened 4 months early

When you apply for a new payment plan, it requires current income information, which means your income recertification effectively happens then and gets “reset.”
