Im 20, i live in california, i had one minor accident when i was 19 (damage totaled was under 1k), and my policy lapsed so im shopping for new insurance, but all my quotes are anywhere from 400-510 dollars monthly. My previous policy was 345 a month and i thought that was high. Am i missing anything? im driving a 2009 F150 and was hoping to find a policy around 300 a month.
How can i get cheaper insurance as a young driver?

You’re young, you have accident history, you live in California, and you have a lapse. You already have 4 major factors going against you. There’s pretty much 0% chance of finding anything close to what you were paying on your previous policy.
As the other commenter said, you’ve got pretty much every whammy working against you. All you can you is shop around through both direct writers and independent agents/brokers, but it’s unlikely you’ll find a price lower than what you paid before the accident and before the lapse.
If I were you, I’d take any policy you can get right now (please don’t go with state minimum liability limits regardless of cost; higher limits can also help for your future rates) to reduce the length of the lapse then keep your record spotless for a *minimum* of six months and shop again. Not saying you’ll see a huge decrease at that time, but the longer you have clean history, continuous prior coverage, plus more years of driving experience will help your situation.
