I don’t have any car insurance and I am going to be in another state for somewhere between 3-6 months where I will need a car. I’m looking to see if this is all I will need as I rather get it from an insurance company than pay a daily rate at a rental car place.

I also have the Chase sapphire preferred so I believe I should be covered for CDW/LDW.

Any help on this is appreciated!

    1. Many credit cards only cover the rental vehicle for Collision they don’t have liability coverage.

From what I have heard lately, it is extremely difficult to even find a company to write a non owners policy at this point. If you don’t own a vehicle, a NNO policy should suffice if you can find one.

You should look up your RAC benefits on the Chase website. Since you do not have personal auto insurance, regardless of whether your card provides primary or secondary insurance, you’ll be OK. If secondary, it will act as primary. This coverage is generally for physical damage to the vehicle, in lieu of CDW/LDW. Liability is an entirely different issue. You’ll need a non-owners liability policy, or you’ll need to purchase coverage through the RAC. Finally, keep in mind that all card benefits are for a maximum rental period of 30 days. If you are staying 3-6 months, you would have to return for a new rental contract every 30 days.
