Currently, I have three cards:
- Capital One Quicksilver One, $39 AF, $7500 Limit, At least 15 years old
- Discover IT, No AF, $7500 Limit, Roughly 10 years old?
- Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select, $99 AF, $14500 Limit, 4 years old
I've also opened and closed an AmEx Delta Skymiles card back in November 2024. They offered me $500 off a flight to Europe so I opened the card, the credit posted before I left for the trip, paid off the rest of the flight balance and immediately closed the card, total open time was probably less than a month.
I have pretty good credit, Citi's App says 759, mostly due to higher utilization right now (big car expense came up).
Annual income is around 60-70K depending on the year.

Meat and Potatoes of my Post:
- As in the post title, I'm looking to restructure a bit. I don't think I spend enough to justify having cards with annual fees, So I'd like to get away from that. The CapOne hasn't been used except by accident for years now, the AAdvantage doesn't seem as beneficial as it once was so I'd like a more rewarding daily driver, and the Discover with rotating categories is annoying to remember which quarter I'm on. The lack of balance transfers also makes it significantly less useful to me.
- So as I said above, I have three cards. I'd like to eliminate the CapOne as I never use it, and it's $39 i pay every year just because it's my oldest card. Generally this seems ok, but i thought I'd check in.
- The Discover card was good for a while, I used it for balance transfers come spring. I work seasonally, so over the winter I would stack up my Citi card while traveling, pay some off, then balance transfer the rest in the spring to maintain my cash savings in case any serious issues came up and pay the transfer off over the next couple months as my income ramped up (Idk what "issues" could be either, but that's been my logic). Now that CapOne has taken over Discover, I've Discovered (lol) that they won't do balance transfers at the same discount rate as before, so I'm looking to cancel this one as well.
- I also don't travel as much as I used to, and with recent changes to American Airlines flight routes and fee structures, the miles don't seem to be as useful as they once were. However, the free checked bag is something I really make use of while traveling for surf, so I don't anticipate getting rid of the card, more-so just "demoting" it to my drawer, only to be used when I'm buying plane tickets.
- With all of that said I'd like to cancel the Discover and CapOne, Pick up a year-round 5% cash back card for a specific category (probably gas or groceries), add a catchall 2% cashback card to use for everything else, and keep the AAdvantage for travel-specific purchases.
- * Do you have any cards you've been looking at?
- Currently I've been checking out the Fidelity 2% cash back card. I also use Fidelity for my brokerage, will be opening retirement stuff with them this year, and would like to get my cash savings account away from CapOne, moving everything to one app. This would also be my international use card, and I'd get the Global Entry credit. Four birds, one stone.
- For a 5% card, I'm open to suggestions. The Citi Custom Cash seems the best option, mostly for use as a gas card in the summer when I'm working more, groceries in the winter when I'm driving less. I don't have enough deposits for the BoA custom cash card. Anything else I'm missing from the list?
I'm open to suggestions on everything from specific cards, straight up to the core structure of my new plan. Just trying to streamline things so I don't have five different financial apps on my phone. The goal is to eliminate annual fees and not have to think about which card I use for what, but still feel like I'm getting good enough rewards. Thanks for any input!
Looking to restructure my credit cards, if there are any better suggestions, I'm all ears (eyes).

Simply upgrade from the QuicksilverOne to the Quicksilver to rid of the annual fee. The point of the One is that it’s for people with poorer credit to get their foot in the door, you can typically just upgrade it to not have an annual fee after a year of building credit. That’s 14 years of donating money to Capital One, assuming the card back then was anything like it is now – don’t make it 15
As for everything else, AAA Daily Advantage covers groceries at 5% with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee, as well as 3% wholesale clubs, pharmacies, streaming, and gas. Fidelity Rewards makes sense as a 2% catch-all with no AF and no FTF
