My student loan date shows my Income Certifcation date is August 2026, but I just received a US Dept of Ed email that seems to be trying to trick me into decertifying and increasing my payments too early. Should I wait until Anny before the revert deadline to submit, i think my payments will increase by $1,200 per month when I recertify, but my PSLF 120th payment is shortly after my receterifatjin deadline of August 2026.
The email excerpts say:
“Our records show that you have consented to let us automatically recertify your IDR plan. However, our system was unable to confirm your information. As a result, we can't automatically recertify your plan.”
“You must act now to manually recertify your income and family size by logging in to StudentAid.gov and submitting a recertification request. In this request, you may have to provide alternative documentation of income (ADOI), which does not include federal tax returns. You must submit other proof of income, such as paystubs or W-2 forms.”
“If you don't recertify your IDR plan by the required date communicated to you by your loan servicer, you will be removed from the current version of your IDR plan and assigned a payment amount that is not based on income and family size. This could significantly increase your monthly payments.”
Recertification email 4 months before recertification deadline.

The emails for the attempted auto recertifications have been going out a couple months before the actual date. You just need to make sure you do it in time to get it processed by your required date. You don’t have to do it today.
Well better than mine. Mine auto certified, half assed rhe application then put me into a 60 day forebearance instead of keeping me in current plan. I never asked for any of that to happen. My recert date was august….
My wife also got that message and it said for us to recertify by 6/12/26 but her actual date to recertify is 7/7/26 according to the loans so we’re probably going to wait until before the later date before her payments go up a ridiculous amount.
I received the same email. I plan to wait until the month it is due and not any earlier.
