Question is in the title. I just moved out of my brother's house into an apartment that has a brand new GE glass top electric stove. He had an induction cooktop. The amount of time that it takes to heat up a pan on the glass top vs. his induction cooktop is crazy. And it stays hot forever. I will only have a window unit in this place in the summer so I'm wondering if it's worth it to get a countertop induction unit and just use that instead. If you think so any recommendations would be great thanks!

Is it worth it to get a countertop induction unit?

Induction doesn’t stay hot forever. It cools down very quickly as it only heat as a result of the pan heating up the countertop.

Now, from a frugality point of view, I consider time = money.

So if I need to choose between electric and induction, induction all the time.

But between gas and induction is different. Where I live between 4 and 7 electricity is wicked expensive. So I prefer gas.

I got a induction burner or hot plate because the building’s gas lines are messed up and I can’t use my gas stove. That little thing is awesome. It can boil water faster than the gas stove, and it can also give me a true low setting for things like simmering oatmeal. On my gas stove I woul turn it down until the flame was barely there. If it was any higher the oatmeal would boil over, and if it was any lower it would go out. It would often go out anyway. With the induction burner, I can just set it to 1.5 and walk away. You can also set whatever temperature you want it to maintain, and it will do it. On the other hand, I can press the Boil button and it will boil a quart of water in two minutes! And it’s also a lot cleaner than a gas stove. No indoor air pollution.

I’m probably going to get another one. It rocks. No kidding.

    3. I think it is worth while exploring. You can get a single burner one for sixty bucks and use it during the summer months. I suspect you may save more than 60 bucks on electricity in one summer month.
