Just signed a new lease and my rent is ~$4,500/month. Monthly spend outside of rent is around $2,500, mostly dining, groceries and general expenses.

Fairly new to US credit so my history is thin. Been looking into Bilt since it seems like the only way to actually earn rewards on rent without a transaction fee eating everything up.

    Comparing the two entry points:

Blue ($0/yr) — no risk, good starting point but feels like leaving value on the table

Obsidian ($95/yr) — 3X dining, $100 hotel credit basically wipes the fee, better travel protections

    Main questions:

    1. With thin credit history, is Obsidian even realistic to get approved for or should I just start with Blue and upgrade?
    2. How good are Bilt points actually for international flight redemptions? Worth holding onto vs just cashing out?
    3. Any Bilt-specific gotchas I should know before pulling the trigger?

Been going back and forth on this for a while, would love to hear from people who actually use it day to day. Thanks

Should I get the Bilt card?

    1. Right now whatever card you get you’re stuck with so if you get the obsidian you can never get any other SUB again so you won’t be able to get the 50k for the palladium

    2. ActImpressive4380 on

I’d start with the lower tier and upgrade. You could always get another card for other purchases too.
