I am new to Amex. I just got approved for a BCE for $1,000. I am honestly surprised by the low limit. What can I do to grow this? Am I missing something?
Amex typically starts conservative especially if you’re new to them, even with good credit elsewhere. Just use it regularly and pay it off, they usually bump limits pretty quick once they see your spending patterns
The $1k isn’t really about your creditworthiness – more like them being cautious with new relationships

Amex is very easy to get CLIs from. I went from $4k to $12k in less than a year. Use the card responsibly and ask for a CLI after 91 days.

I started at 1k also. 90 days later went to 3k. 90 days later went to 9k. 90 days later went to 25k and that’s where I’m leaving it.

I started at $1000 at the time when the first increase could be requested at like 61 days and then approvals were 181 days between approvals. I got to $20k within 2 years, with a couple denials.
$1000 used to be called “barely approved”. Just prove yourself by allowing a reasonable statement balance and paying in full. You may have some denials along the way.

Amex is lenient about CLI. Pay this BCE in full after statement closes but before due date each month. You should not have trouble getting limit increased.
