I've been Apple Card curious for a while. Pretty deep in the product ecosystem but never had a compelling reason to apply. At the beginning of the month I got an ad for new accounts getting 5% on groceries up to $500 in the first six months. Why not?

A few days in I noticed all my grocery purchases are getting the standard 2% in the Wallet app. Called Goldman and the rep spent 20 minutes investigating. They concluded it was due to it being a new account and the full 5% would show up eventually. They confirmed the promo offer was applied and said this would be resolved.

Fast froward two weeks and I'm still only getting 2% on groceries. Called Goldman again to follow up. First rep put me on hold for 20 minutes and then transferred me to Apple Support–who they insist were the only ones who could resolve the problem. Two Apple Support reps (US-based) are utterly bewildered and pass me back to another front-line Goldman rep who after 20 more minutes says they need to open a new ticket to resolve some unknown underlying issue. Square one.

I'm now an hour in and it's clear the overseas Goldman reps are totally incompetent. Finally demand to speak to a sup who's able to file a fix in five minutes (but could take 10 additional days to process).

This wasn't some complicated dispute or appeal for approval. Goldman's systems totally botched a basic signup bonus and their customer service in resolving it was THE worst I've dealt with from a financial institution.

To anyone calling Apple Card support: DEMAND to speak to a supervisor before you waste an hour+ of your life.

To folks on the fence about opening an Apple Card: Don't.

I called them last Tuesday because I got a promo that said I got $75 after my first purchase AND 5% on groceries up to $500 and I haven’t gotten the $75 nor the 5%. I called them and they claimed there was never a promo like that.. I still haven’t gotten the emailed so I know for a FACT it’s a real promo. They asked me to read the email so I did. Then they said they were going to escalate this to figure out what happened. Well today is day 5 (business days) and I have yet to hear anything back.

Tomorrow I’m calling because I don’t even have a place to message them on my Apple Wallet app like everyone else apparently has.
