Hello all! I have made some dumb decisions in the past and racked up about $5k on my Amazon synchrony card. In the past couple years I’ve been not really spending on it or looking at it but just set it to automatic minimum monthly payment as I focused on paying off other debts first.

Well now I’m ready to start paying down the Amazon prime synchrony card and I noticed my balance has gone up and hasn’t lowered at all. I go through the statements and I see this $80-$90 monthly charge for at least the last 8 months of “payment security” that I most certainly never requested.

What’s the best way to go about dealing with this? Seeing this makes my stomach churn a bit. Can I dispute all of these charges or do I need to just cancel whatever this subscription is and eat what I got? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How to deal with “payment security” charges I never signed up for on Amazon prime synchrony card?

if you didn’t sign up, call them and ask for a full “look-back” refund. If they don’t give you a refund, file a complaint with the CFPB.

Payment security is a type of insurance that cancels some of your debt if you’re unemployed, hospitalized, etc. read the fine print very carefully before signing up, and I don’t think it’s a good product for most consumers with all the catches (if it’s too good to be true it probably is)

Ugh this happened to my friend few years back with different card company. She called them directly and they actually refunded like 6 months of those charges because she never agreed to it in first place. The payment security thing is usually some insurance they try to slip in during signup or when you’re making payments online

You should definitely call synchrony customer service and tell them you never authorized this service. Don’t let them give you runaround about “you must have clicked yes somewhere” – just keep saying you want all charges reversed since you never signed up for it. My friend had to escalate to supervisor but they eventually credited her account back around $400

Also check if there’s any written record in your emails or account settings showing when this was supposedly added. Sometimes they can’t even show you proof you agreed to it and that makes their case weaker. Worth trying to get those 8 months back before just canceling it going forward
