I scraped the bumper of a newish Tesla the other day in a parking lot. No one was in the car and I waited until the driver showed up. We exchanged info and he agreed to wait on contacting insurance to see whether the estimates would be low enough for me to just pay out of pocket and not involve insurance. My decision whether to just have my insurance pay for the damage hinges, in part, on whether my rates will go up. I currently have a "good driver discount" and I see that the rules for this discount allow for up to one accident where there is no bodily injury (this would qualify). Can I reasonably expect that my insurance will not raise my rates?

So is the good driver discount going to be lost if you file this claim? Do you think it’s worth “spending” that claim if the guy says it costs $100 or $1000 or $10k? Best advice is to avoid claims if at all possible

Yes, your rates will go up. However, Tesla’s are rarely cheap to repair even with minor damage. Less than $2,500 and it might be worth paying out of pocket, more than that, I’d let insurance handle it. I would anticipate any Tesla repair to be more than $2,500.

    3. I had a 50/50 accident 2 years ago and went through insurance. I have a good drivers discount and first time accident forgiveness. My rate actually went down $70 last year so I can’t see yours being raised if you have those things.
