Need financial guidance and help!

    don't know where to start

Just want to start this off by saying I am financially illiterate. My parents never told me anything about personal finance, my mom was a stay at home mom while my dad went off to get the bacon. However, I didn't learn anything about money, budgets and racked up a ton of debt. I have school loans and credit card bills that I am paying off slowly but it is truly draining me out. It is embarrassing to say but I am 39/F and just now finally have a 401k with my current employer. I am so lost and hear so many different conflicting information that I truly don't know where to start to being more financially secure. Please help!

    1. 39 isn’t late, it just feels that because no one really teaches this stuff. you’re already doing the right things by asking. don’t try to fix debt, saving, retirement all at once, just get a clear monthly picture first and build from there and if even that feels overwhelming, there are apps that can help, quicken simplifi is often recommended for getting that basic visibility.
