I found some old paper stock certificates I bought 35 years ago. My dad told me to buy them and I did and never looked at them again.
How would I go about seeing if they are worth anything?
They are for a company called GranCare, Inc
For some reason I think he told me that they merged with someone else years ago

Call up your brokerage. They’ll want the physical certificates anyway if you want them added to your account. But don’t send them yet. Ask them if they’ll be able to assist you in looking up mergers and such that may have occurred since they were issued.
I’m not familiar with the medical business, but it looks like they were still active until at least 2020 acccording to [National Provider Identity database.](https://npidb.org/organizations/nursing_and_custodial_care/skilled-nursing-facility_314000000x/1518939016.aspx)
There’s a phone number in the link if you’d like to give them a try.
Google shows (via Chicago Tribune [https://www.chicagotribune.com/1997/05/09/grancare-2/](https://www.chicagotribune.com/1997/05/09/grancare-2/) ):
* **Acquisition (1997):** GranCare, Inc. merged with Living Centers of America, Inc. to form a new company in a transaction.
* **Stock Conversion:** Under the 1997 deal, GranCare stockholders were to receive 0.2469 shares of the combined company for each of their shares, with GranCare shares valued at approximately $10 each at the time.
Looks like the LCA merged in to Mariner Health Group in 1997: [https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/882287/000095014403000731/g79173a1sv1za.htm](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/882287/000095014403000731/g79173a1sv1za.htm)
Then they went bankrupt in 2002.
Wow, what a mess. Good luck.
