Here's the clusterfuck situation: I used to be part time in the National Guard and received a bonus for reenlisting in 2023, which was supposed to be tax free as I extended my contract while overseas. They initially take out the taxes as normal and you'd get reimbursed that same amount in your tax return. Unfortunately, they issued me a W-2 that didn't account for this and I did not receive the reimbursement. I reached out, they took way too long and I finally got the W-2C recently.

However, just now when trying to file an amended return using FreeTaxUSA, I was going through my old tax records on my PC and realized I had accidentally used a duplicate PDF in 2023. I stupidly had labeled the W-2 from my full time job in the federal government as my National Guard W-2, most likely because box C has the same employer name (DFAS, which is Defense Finance and Accounting Service). So I uploaded my full time federal government W-2 correctly, but also used this same form for the National Guard. Apparently the CPA I used at the time didn't notice this either. The tax return was accepted and went through.

Now the glaring issue: my National Guard W-2C "Previously Reported" $ amount in box 1 won't even match what the IRS has on file because I used the wrong form. It's only the difference of about $2k, but I'm worried that the IRS will reject my amended return because of this discrepancy. Or, I wonder if they saw the duplicate W-2 and simply disregarded it, meaning I wouldn't have filed anything for the Guard that year at all. It's a mess and I'm not sure what the best path forward is. Ask my former CPA to help? Just go forward with FreeTaxUSA and hope it takes? Thoughts? I'd appreciate any insight!

Massive cluster: Recently finally received 2023 W-2C from previous employer and realized I uploaded the wrong W-2 to begin with, tax return still went through
