Bumper damage. Claim through other driver insurance, who accepted 100% fault.
Body shop has been in contact with insurance co. Shop sent me a form to sign acknowledge fee for dropping bumper to estimate damage, with me on hook for payment if issue with insurance co? Is a bif fee. More then 1k.
Never seen this before. Is this standard practice? Should I check with insurance before I sign this?

If you break down who has what financial relationship with who, the body shop is contracted by you to repair your vehicle.
The at fault carrier is contracted by their insured to protect their financial interests.
In theory both talk and the carrier pays the body shop for the repairs, however if something breaks down in the negotiations, you contracted the body shop for services, that’s why they are asking for authorization.
Generally everything works out fine, but there are shops who done excel at communicating with adjusters and adjuster who drop the ball.
