Been in public accounting for 9 years. The hardest part of tax season isn't the taxes—it's getting clients to send documents.
Email 1: "Hi, could you send me your W-2?" Email 2: "Hi, just following up on the W-2…" Email 3: "Hi, sorry to bother you again…" Email 4: "Hi, W-2 deadline is this Friday…" Email 5: "Hi, please 🙏"
Client responds with a screenshot of their bank balance.
Why does this happen every single year?
Not because clients don't care—because they genuinely don't know WHAT to send and WHERE to find it.
Anyone else dealing with this? How do you handle it?
Chasing clients for tax documents every year is exhausting
