I will be a freshman next year, and I’m a first generation college student. I’m having a hard time with scholarships, and I only have $10,000 saved for college. My schooling costs $43,000, what type of loan should I take out? I have no idea how any of this works, and I’m having a hard time finding someone to help me understand. Any advice is welcomed, thank you in advance!

$43k for one year? You will ideally secure federal loans. Need to apply with FAFSA first. Seek advice from your school’s financial aid office. What’s your intended major/degree? I feel for you! My spouse and I are both first generation college grads and had to learn things the hard way many times.

Go to community college for the first 2 years then transfer to 4 year program.

What is your major/what do you want to do? Is 43k for everything or one semester?
