i put out a thread asking for cold wallet ideas, and i got mixed responses some said trezor was the best, ledger was okay. Ive also been seeing around that ledger has some sort of a backdoor whereas trzer is completely open souse and is the best. Just wondering whaich is the best and why

Trezor 7 Bitcoin only or JadePlus. Both air-gapped. **Avoid Ledger**. Thanks to the “new” recovery feature, it’s just a fancy hot wallet.
Trezor. Open source. EU based and made (Czechia).
Ledger is a closed source cryptocurrency wallet that is mainly geared towards altcoins. Nobody is able to review the source code of the firmware used on a closed source hardware wallet like Ledger. And bitcoin-only hardware wallets are safer because bitcoin-only firmware contains less code, and less code means that it has a smaller attack surface and there’s less risk of it containing bugs/vulnerabilities.
Some good bitcoin hardware wallet options are the [Coldcard Q](https://coldcard.com/q), [BitBox02 Bitcoin-only edition](https://bitbox.swiss/bitbox02/bitcoin-only/), [Blockstream Jade Plus](https://store.blockstream.com/products/jade-plus?variant=49701334188320), [Trezor Safe 5 Bitcoin-only](https://trezor.io/trezor-safe-5-bitcoin-only), [Trezor Safe 7 Bitcoin-only](https://trezor.io/trezor-safe-7-bitcoin-only), and [Foundation Passport Core](https://foundation.xyz/passport-core/). These six hardware wallets are all good hardware wallets that have publicly available source code that can be reviewed.
There are also older & cheaper versions of three of these hardware wallets but they are still open source and reliable. They are just less user friendly than the newer & costlier versions. Those older & cheaper versions are the [Coldcard Mk4](https://coldcard.com/mk4), [Trezor Safe 3](https://trezor.io/trezor-safe-3), and [Blockstream Jade Classic](https://store.blockstream.com/products/blockstream-jade-hardware-wallet).
[SeedSigner](https://seedsigner.com/) is another good option. You can easily use readily available parts to build yourself a SeedSigner hardware wallet which is fully open source and can be used in an air-gapped fashion. But SeedSigner is not as user friendly as Trezor, BitBox02, or Blockstream Jade Plus.
Has anyone used BitBox?
