I had a hot water tank burst, it was about 9-11 years old and it happened at 2am so an emergency plumber came and replaced it and took the old one away. It did some water damage and now the insurance company wants the old tank's info but it's gone and the plumber doesn't have it. I just don't have it or any receipts to prove anything other than some blurry photos that show the tank but you can't read anything on the label. Am I screwed?

Insurance says I need my old hot water tank's serial number for subrogation purposes but it's in the dump

    1. Shouldn’t be a problem paying the claim, but they won’t be able to pursue subrogation to try to collect back any deductible or out of pocket you had.

You may not be screwed, but you probably made their subrogation job harder. I’d focus on gathering every substitute piece of evidence you can instead of assuming the claim is dead.

look to see if it’s in the home inspectors report from when you purchased the home. my inspector in my last two purchases took photos of them.

For future reference, keep a file or document with all of your model and serial numbers.
