I want to buy a pc since my old one broke down.

My father wants to buy me a new prebuilt PC meanwhile I have been saving for a new PC for 3 years and I want to buy it with my own money, each part online and assemble it.

He wants to buy a 1518$ machine which I don’t need. I keep telling him that I don’t need it, I opened 1080p gaming comparation and there is maximum 20 fps difference between the GPU I want (Arc B580) and prebuilt PC GPU (9060 XT)

    Mine costs about 961$.

    Prebuilt specs: 16 GB DDR5 Ram, 1TB SSD(too much) Ryzen 5 7600, 9060 XT(too much) and low quality PSU

My specs: 16 GB DDR5 Ram, 512 GB SSD, Ryzen 5 7600, Intel Arc B580 and middle quality PSU

I play 1080p at games like War Thunder, Paradox games, Insurgency: Sandstorm, Squad and light shaders on Minecraft.

The problem is that he never was a frugal person and likes to throw money at problems meanwhile I am and his spending makes me uncomfortable.

I cannot stop him from buying it and this is making me angry and stressed.

I wish my father was frugal, his spending stresses me out.

How old are you? Just tell him that while you really appreciate the thought, you really want to build one. If he insists on buying you a computer, could he pay for the components?

Will it strain him financially to do this nice gesture for you? You know how he spends but do you actually know what his finances are like as a whole?

If not, then just accept the gift and stop stressing about someone else’s choice you can’t control.

1 tb isn’t enough. 2010 me would be shocked to hear that tho. Maybe spend the 1500 total but like buy upgraded parts if he can swing it. Then you won’t have to upgrade for a while longer

the 9060xt will last longer in the long run with 16gbvram, 16gb of ram will be limited in todays and future games (i get your on 1080p but games are demanding more and more). also having an ssd at 512 is scary with prices and game sizes only going up. atleast get a 256 for your OS and 512 for games

maybe meet him in the middle, upgrade your gpu to match the prebuilt

buying any kind of system in the market of computer parts is far from frugal regardless

    5. There will come a time when he’s not around to do these things for you

      You have 2 options

Stand your ground say thank you but you’ve saved specifically for the one you want

Accept it and say thank you, maybe use some of that saved money to get him something to show appreciation

a 16 gb 9060XT is a good investment for future proofing, especially if you are going to game above 1080p in the coming years.
