Hi everyone, I know this question has been asked a trillion times already but I just wanted some more insight. I'm 23F and I've never had a credit card before because my parents told me I was too young/not making enough money to actually use or need one. So I never thought anything about it until my cousins were actively telling me I need one for my age. I recently checked my credit score and it's in the low 700s because my dad put me as a cosigner on his card for quite a while so now I have a credit age of 10 years? (My cousin tried explaining the card age thing to me but I didn't understand it very much). So I just wanted to know if starting off with a simple card like Discover or Chase would still be okay or if I should start looking at different cards due to my credit score? Any advice would be appreciated greatly, thank you!!

Your dad actually did you huge favor by adding you as authorized user – that 10 year credit history is gold at your age, so you can definitely skip the beginner cards and go for something better than basic Discover or Chase options

    2. Creditors tend to look at your credit profile, not your score. Being an authorized user doesn’t prove you’re able to handle your own debt since you aren’t responsible for payments. Discover and Capital One are great starter card companies, but don’t be surprised if you are only approved for beginner secured cards.
