Just spent an hour and a half chatting online and on the phone with five different agents to get my monthly internet bill lowered as it just increased by 12 bucks per month from 45 to 57. The offered promos were for 55/month. The first person I chatted with online said after 15 minutes they needed to forward me to “loyalty” to help me get a discount as I said the advertised discounts were not good enough. The next person I talked to only offered the advertised discounts, and I said not good enough. She then says she was going to transfer me to “loyalty.” I got upset and said “you are loyalty!” The third person I talked to offered the same advertised discounts, and I said not good enough. All the while they’re trying to sell me phone service as well. They then said there is a service they offer that can lower my bill significantly. They forwarded me to an agent who could offer me a discount if I received government benefits which I don’t. So he couldn’t help, and I just said I want to cancel my service. So the last person I was sent to I told immediately I wanted to cancel my service. She asked why, I said you guys can’t provide a service at an affordable rate, and so I want to cancel. She then says there is a plan for 30/month, but it would require me to use their modem which I refused to do, and I said not good enough. She ended up giving me the current promo with a 120 dollar credit on my account. So I essentially have a discounted rate for another year. Obviously if you’re on public assistance know that there are programs that will help lower your internet or phone bill. Also, you if they called my bluff, I would have signed back up as a new customer using my brother’s name as he lives here to get a new customer discount.

LPT: When seeking an internet rate discount from your provider, immediately tell them you want to cancel your service to avoid being given the run around.

    1. I told Spectrum I was on the order page for Frontier, and they could do something to keep me. They gave me their initial 2-year low price for the third time. But then after that 6 years total, frontiers price was just too good to pass up.

I just ask to speak to a customer retention specialist, and they get me to someone who hooks me up with better discounts.

    3. I used to manage my houses service, my mother’s, my uncles, and my aunts, all in my own name.
Every year when contract ended, I’d ring up and threaten to cancel all accounts in one call unless I got a good deal.
Usually worked, but when it didn’t, I’d contact another supplier and ask for a good deal for 4 new accounts!
