What are some nice cities where you can buy a nice home for $1.0-1.5 mill? I always thought a million dollars would get you a nice home, but I can’t find anything nice in the nice areas of my city for less than $1.5 m and the homes I really like are around $2.0 m. I make around ~800k, but don’t want to go overboard for a house. $1.2 m would be ideal.

You make $800k? Just save for a few years and buy whatever you want.
2 is not overboard if you make 800k
That’s luxury pricing in Las Vegas
Where do you want to live? Do you have hobbies that are location/terrain dependent?
It’s wild to me that people who make 800k come to reddit looks for life advice
You can buy a house in Southern California on that budget. Depends a lot on what you mean by a nice home.
Is this a humble brag post? Cmon you can live in any city in the US with $800k a year. You can buy a nice house in NOVA with $1m FYI.
Wow what do you do? Pleasant hill in SF is nice
It sounds like northern cali may be a nice area for price and activities. Get you a little more for your dollar, but still nice weather etc.
I actually prefer east south east for similar reasons. But looking in NC for the mountains and price range.
But I also don’t want to live in the city. I want to live about 1-1.5 hours from a big city, and closer to either the beach or a good mountain area.
Define nice – size, bedrooms, etc.
Everything is 100 years old around me and not super updated but it is great. Most houses in that sweet spot (depending on what you want) as long as it doesn’t have to be large or super modern.
Also PS these seems like a ridiculously out of touch post.
Edit: nevermind. On east coast and you can’t find what you are looking for at those prices here.
Doctors can live in a nice house no matter what the location is
Check out Benicia, ca. pleasant hill, concord, Walnut Creek, ca areas.
Benicia is literally on the water. The others are very close, but run bitter temp wise in the summer. All of these are within 25 miles of downtown San Francisco.
What do you mean by nice?
For 1.5M you could probably get one in my city (Boston) I mean my house is decent and I paid like $800k but if I had 1.2M I could have bought a similar house that had been updated or a better newer bigger house with less character in a worse location
You make 800k a year so what is the problem with purchasing 1.5. What are u doing w 800k a year. U can’t be spending it all. I can’t see spending over 200k a year.
Come to Seattle in a year.
You should be able to buy 3 for that price.
