I don’t think irony is the right word, but it’s funny that the Trump admin campaigned on intentionally weakening the dollar and applying higher tariffs, two things that usually counteract each other. And yet, somehow, he’s gotten both wishes so far
Some of the cause of the falling dollar is us lowering interest rates over the last year and a half, but a lot of it is just countries not wanting to invest in the US right now because of policy uncertainty
If tariffs stick around long enough at a fixed rate, we should see the dollar eventually rebound as our imports decline
