Hi everyone!
I currently have a Chase Sapphire Preferred as my main card and a Discover as my oldest line of credit (seldom used). I'm debating adding the C1 Venture X to my wallet as I began traveling often as they have a great sign up bonus, lounge access and travel credits and also feel like their transfer partners as well as having a CSP widens my umbrella for points transfers.
I'm also debating getting an American Airlines card (I live at a hub and fly often) or some other airline card instead because I can't tell if having both a CSP and
VX card is overkill.
I'd love any/all input or if you think there's other cards to consider, I'd love to hear it!
Thanks in advance!
Capital One Venture X or an airline card?

There’s a 80k in-flight AA Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard offer out there. Waives first year annual fee and you get 80k miles after $1k spend in 3 months. Frequent Miler has a link. I’d get that first. Then sign up for the Venture X. Best of both worlds. (We have both.)
We keep a Sapphire Reserve because the credits work for us and the travel protections are elite. That would be the reason—if I were you—I’d consider keeping your Preferred to book flights on. Not quite as good as CSR but still solid. With the $50 hotel credit it costs you $45 a year.
Lounge access is worth it if you travel abroad. I do feel like it’s a bit overkill having both. You could go for a citi card and get a good SUB for American Airlines.
Having CSP and Venture X is not overkill. IMO I would go for the Venture X then get the AA later on. The venture X (and any Capitol one card) is hard to get later on in your journey.
Airline credit cards make sense if you value things like status and free checked bags. If that matters to you with AA then consider their cards.
Also the Citi trifecta could be good for you with AA transfers and you get 4 admiral’s club passes each year.
You are probably asking the wrong sub about this, but 4 credit cards is not overkill. The CSP might feel redundant if it doesn’t justify the annual fee, but having 4 credit cards is fine. For context, I think I have 10 but I’m not sure. No 14.
Do you check bags? That makes the Platinum Select great sock drawer card once you hit the SUB. I personally grabbed it from a targeted 85k for $4,000 in 4mo mailer; now I’m finishing the Venture X sub which I’ll keep as my primary since it’s a 2x base.
If you have any promo at 80k+ on the AA card I’d get it first, overwise get the Venture X first if you know you’ll use the credit organically. It can be harder to get the Venture X later on but with only 2 cards currently, you still shouldn’t be in any hurry yet. I had discover and Bilt before doing the aforementioned.
I have a CSP and VX
Imo if I were you I would get a Citi duo (Citi Strata Premier and Citi DoubleCash) since you can take better advantage of your AA hub.
