I was a loyal Southwest card holder for over 10 years but ever since the changes there are practically zero benefits for me anymore.

I’m wondering if it makes sense for me to open a new airline or other type of credit card to maximize points on travel. I fly ~20-30 times a year for work and have mostly been loyal to Southwest and Marriott when possible.

Chicago airports are my hub and I travel all around the US (mostly east coast) with some European travel coming up a few times next year.

I currently have Southwest, sapphire preferred and freedom unlimited cards that I use for various purchases.

Wondering if it makes sense for me to open a new card for flights as Southwest doesn’t offer overseas that I will eventually need. Have had horrible American experiences and decent United/delta ones.

If I were to rank pre Southwest BS I’d say Southwest, delta, United, American.

    Any guidance helps thanks!

Probably better to switch United since they are in the same ecosystem, Chase. Also Chicago is United’s hub.

If you game it to the Companion Pass, SW is still the best deal around for domestic travel

Airline cobranded cards are a horrible way to earn points but are good for benefits like pre boarding and checked bag. Your work might cover that or you might not even need that. At the higher end you can get lounge access which, to me, would be totally worth it if I were in 40 airports a year. Unless they don’t have lounges.

If you’re being reimbursed for all your travel, opening lots of cards for sign up bonuses and keeping a few for lounge access probably makes the most sense.
