While I see the rewards/cost benefits of both Robinhood and Bilt; their customer service is rather lacking. So I've been looking back at AMEX with their points – that work for me – and their customer service.

    What do you all think?

Is Amex Duo (Gold + BBP) Still Viable In The World Of Palladiums And Robinhood Gold Cards?

Amex points system is still pretty solid for transferring to partners, and their customer service actually picks up the phone which is rare these days 😂 The BBP for non-category spend at 2x is hard to beat if you don’t want annual fees on everything 💀

It’s hardly a world of Bilt Palladiums and Robinhood Gold cards. The Bilt 2.0 release was a complete mess well beyond just ‘rather lacking’ customer service, and the Robinhood Gold is a cashback credit card with no relation to the travel points game at all – locked behind a lengthy and elusive waitlist at that. I haven’t heard much “AmEx sucks” sentiment lately, if anything the Gold card recently got buffed. If the transfer partners worked for you before then I don’t see what would’ve changed. If you’re just customer service maxxing or something then sure, AmEx does well, Navy Federal too I suppose.

    3. FWIW I have the RGC and the support is so terrible that I’m looking at just going to AmEx Gold and calling it a day

Yes if you live in a Delta hub.

Also look into getting a Rakuten card or WF autograph to complement those two.

Depends on your spend and how you value points and then points vs cb.

Customer service is worth something, which is why Citi gets made fun of and why Bilt is basically putting themselves out of business. Amex customer service is good. So is Capital One. Navy Federal is probably the best. Many people just get something with Chase and never think about credit cards again, so there’s that too.

Regarding the Amex duo, sure, it can work for people who are good at transferring out points. I prefer a hybrid approach, so I am partial to Capital One and Wells Fargo. Currently tinkering with Amex Gold for the SUB. If I didn’t want to entertain points at all, I would likely fully switch over to Navy Federal.
