Background: Prior Service Army 6 years Active. Rejoined in Oct 25 and commissioned in Jan 26.

Originally went to finance to check on status of backpay because I’m not getting paid with any time of service. They identified I was incorrectly getting BAH since October. I went to finance 3 separate times asking if they were certain I was supposed to be receiving it and they all said yes. I brought that up today and they said those people were wrong and I owe backpay.

So I can’t even get paid correctly and they are drawing this process out over months but my pay is incorrect even though I did the right thing and they said yes 3 separate times and they are going to collect the debt immediately.

My question is as an Army Officer can they take your entire pay check until the debt is paid off? Another post stated this.

Second question is can I pay off the debt by using money in my savings rather than them taking pay?

    1. 1. You need to get your TIS fixed. I’m not sure who this is in the Army, but it’s not finance. Whatever your personnel tracking function is. Finance just pays you as to what is in the system.

      2. No, they can’t take your entire paycheck.

      3. No, you cannot pay debts back with your own money – nor would you want to. It’s a “free loan”. Subsidize your living with your own money.
