My total spending for April was only around $500–$600, so I was still well below the $1,000 threshold. On April 28, I made a $400 purchase in a single Costco order, buying three shop cards ($250, $100, and $50).
Initially, the transaction appeared as a single pending charge of $400 with 2,000 pending reward points. However, Costco later split it into three separate transactions. The $250 and $100 transactions were posted on April 29, while the $50 transaction was not posted until May 6.
Due to this split, only the $50 transaction earned 250 points, which may have been counted toward May instead of April. The reward points for the $250 and $100 transactions were not properly credited.
I contacted customer service, and they agreed to issue a $12.50 voucher for the $250 transaction (instead of the 1,250 reward points, voucher is used for purchase only), but they did not provide any compensation for the $100 transaction. As a result, I am still missing 500 reward points from the $100 purchase. I did not spend more time arguing for only $5 (500 reward points).
Going forward, if I use the PayPal debitcard to purchase Costco shop cards online, I will make separate transactions for each shop card to avoid this issue (only one shop card in each Costco online order). The reward point program is just so messy after initial $400 authorized pending transaction, then three separate transactions.

That’s wild how they split up the transaction like that, really screws with the rewards tracking. I’ve had similar issues with gift card purchases getting weird processing – seems like their system just can’t handle multiple cards in one order properly
Separate orders definitely the way to go even though it’s more annoying, these companies love finding ways to short you on rewards whenever there’s any technical hiccup
PayPal debit is being nerfed anyway
