As the title says, I'm the titled owner of my daughter's car (it's financed and I don't want to take the interest rate hit to have her refinance the loan so the title can be in her name). She's living about 4 hours away and going to grad school and paying for her own insurance. Since I'm the titled owner, I'm required to be on the insurance, but Progressive told her that she either needs to list me as a driver – which she can't do without claiming that I live with her – or list me as an excluded driver. They said I can't be listed as an "Interested party" because that only applies to lienholders. I drive her car maybe once a year if I'm visiting her and use it for some reason so it's not a huge deal if I'm excluded and can't use it at all, but it seems like there has to be a better way.

Anybody have any experience with this?

Did they tell you that you are required to be on the insurance? If you are, I would go ahead and update to excluded driver – could help her rate?

    2. Which State? Some you might have to some you might not. There are 50 states in the USA plus Washington DC and they all have different rules.

Generally speaking on progressives side, given your situation, you would be added as an additional interest, not as a driver/excluded driver. Unless you are a regular operator, or a household member.
