I’m turning 18 soon and want to build a little credit as a start at least. I plan to really only use it for gas. I saw the discover it was 5% cash back but then saw it rotated quarterly and turned me away for the most part. What are some recommendations?

Citi Custom Cash (5% up to $500 per billing cycle) and AAA Travel Advantage (5% up to $7000 per year)
Either the American Express Blue cash everyday 3% cash back or the Citi custom cash 5% cash back
AAA Travel Advantage is a solid choice. 5% Gas, 3% Grocery and 3% Dining as well.
Citi Custom Cash is also good. 5% on your biggest spend category up to $500/month.
Neither has an annual fee.
What is your credit score? Do you have any credit history?
If you do, try with AMEX BCE or Citi Custom Cash.
If not, try one of those Discover cards to get some credit history first.
If you only want to spend on gas then the citi custom cash for 5% in one category of your choice will likely be good for you. However, if you have limited credit history, you may not be able to get approved for that. Starter credit cards would be the discover it card, or capital one student card.
