I attempted to pay my credit card balances early but I guess I did it too close to my autopay date so I had 2 charges of 706.98 on my bank account. I called Capital One who advised me to call my bank and request a stop payment for the other payment of 706.98 which I just did. Will I potentially have any negative consequences from Capital One for this? I did make one payment of $706 from my bank account and the customer support person literally told me to request a stop pay

Accidentally charged twice for credit card payment so I did a stop pay

Oh no. No, no, no. The rep is giving terrible advice here. They neither know nor care about anything off-script, and are just getting you off the phone as quickly as possible.

From C1’s perspective, this will appear as a failed/returned payment. The reason doesn’t matter. They are highly sensitive to returned payments, regardless of whether they’re “extra” payments or not, and frequently close accounts from *just one occurrence.*

I’d anticipate your account will be shut down.
