I’m in the midst of a super tough decision and looking for input from others who may have faced something similar. We just sold our first home that we’ve had for over 10 years. It sold way faster than expected and now we’re kind of scrambling to decide on a new home. One is unique with an urban feel, close to all of our favorite things in the city. But it’s not a super great area, not “bad” just pretty hit or miss block by block, and we have 2 young kids. The other home is in a suburb outside of the city, great schools and community but the home is very bland, cookie-cutter on the exterior. The interior is unique and very nice though. We are torn. Any input is appreciated!

Urban vs Suburban how did you choose?

      Whatever we could afford.

If money is no object I’d have a free standing house in the middle of London or Sydney or Tokyo or New York.

But the less you spend the more suburban or rural you go.

It would take a lot to pry me out of the city, especially now that I can walk to the grocery co-op. Cities have black people and poor people, but I get a lot more shit from angry white guys in big pickup trucks than from either of those groups people like to say make a neighborhood “sketchy.”

We did suburban as we were constantly told the schools and community were great, but omg, this is not our community and I will never trust school rankings again. The level of ignorance and prejudice here is astounding. We’re scrambling to get back into our city.

I’ve mostly lived in the burbs but went to school in a major city and lived downtown.

I realize that there are a lot of negatives to it, but I enjoy having a driveway/garage and being able to easily drive to stores without worrying about parking there or at home. I like having land and garden space.
