I have a smallish position in RKLB of 203 shares with $4 average and this boom threw me off balance with RKLB now at 60% of my portfolio.

If you have a small portfolio, what do you do when your shares explode?

Logically I understand the smart thing to do is to sell at least half (its all in Roth) , freeze gains and invest in ETF (my main core). But I am having so much trouble 🙂 mainly because I hold tiny positions in stocks and never experienced such gains. ETF gains are easier to ignore.

If you are a relatively small investor, how do you determine when to let it go? Or do you?

      It’s a sizing question. If it’s above 6% allocation, reset-trim it to 6.

    2. If you think it has room to run, leave it alone. If you think it’s topped – sell.

60% of your portfolio?? Yikes! It’s TIME to take some profits, especially after today’s run up

Edit: To put into perspective, after today, my RKLB position amounts up to about 5% of my networth, and I *personally* think that’s too much exposure to such a volatile company. I will be trimming a little on Monday as well

recall your objective of buying it: to sell it when it reaches $50, $100? what’s your timeline?

if it were me, i’d sell and get a diversified ETF for long term core, or pick another growth stock.

Depends on your age. Depends on how you feel about RKLB and its future. At the start I had about 300 shares with an average of 6$. Overtime I’ve sold, bought back, and invested money elsewhere. Today, I trimmed my RKLB position and invested that money into AUR and VXUS. Between AUR and RKLB, I want to keep them below 20% of my portfolio. FXAIX is the backbone of my portfolio which is 75%

    6. You have passed the point of selling a portion.

You have fallen in love with a stock and that is a no-no.

I only sell stocks that are not growing for an extended period of time, not the ones that are growing.

That being said, RKLB is going to have a correction pretty soon and if it’s 60% of you portfolio, do sell some of it. Collect some gains and have peace of mind.

I own 12 stocks total, mostly growth stocks. None of them make up for more than 15% of my portfolio
