So recently I was able to reduce my 6 month bill from $4,292 to $2,296 with Progressive but I feel uneasy as if I did something wrong on the application and it feels to good to be true.
Two drivers, me (25 yr male) and my dad (50 yr male) with 3 cars.
The major difference is that I am now the policy owner instead of him.
The only things that come to mind that would or wouldn't make a difference is the following:
- Credit Score: 780 vs <680
- Driving History: clean record vs reckless driving ticket, no fault accident, incidents more than 5 years back
- He is now married
- Income
Not only this but we're not stuck with the state minimums. I filled out the application to the best of my ability, gave all up to date information, and crossed reference with our current policy. Everything is the same if not better for less.
I tried reaching out to to different agents, but ended up getting similar offers nearing that 4.5k mark. Which resulted in me just doing quotes online which felt easier and putting me as the policy owner resulted in the same low bill. Did I mess something up?

For what its worth, progressive is slashing rates across the country. They are within striking distance of state farm as being the #1 auto insurer in the country. Many think they already have it locked up, but the data isn’t there yet.
Great credit score, clean driving history, and no spouse – I’d say you are doing just fine. In the event they did actually mess anything up, it’s certainly not your fault.
$8500+/yr is insane. Your new rate seems much more reasonable.
This is why everyone should shop around. Loyalty means nothing. Especially if you keep paying the price increases.
