So I’m retiring in a couple of months and it’s time to figure out where to move my 401. My wife has been with Edward Jones for 2 years and they’ve done fine during that time. I’m thinking of doing the same, but but I thought I’d throw the idea out here to the haters here to tell me why this is a horrible idea and what I should really do.
We had a meeting with the Edward Jones guy yesterday and we’re pretty solid thru our anticipated lifetimes at our current lifestyle even with inflation, travel, budget for major home repairs, end of life medical costs and would still have significant money remaining after we die.

FWIW, I’ve been pretty laissez-faire in my investing ( currently handled by Empower by my employer). I realize EJ is a for fee planning service, but what’s the alternative? A fiduciary? I’m certainly not a DIYer when it comes to this.

Where to move my 401 to after retirement?

Why do you feel the need to move your 401k at all? That is not a requirement.

    2. I suggest you call Fidelity, Schwab and Vanguard and ask them about the fees for their personal advisor services. I don’t know one way or the other about EJ, but I think it’s good to park your money where the agents don’t work on commission.
